A small paper banner is a lovely way to decorate a bedroom door, celebrate a birthday or spend an afternoon crafting together. Each piece in this project measures approximately 3 × 3 inches.
Choose a theme
Pick a short name, greeting or set of shapes. Pastel colours, bright patterns and small animals all work well, but the theme can be as simple as a favourite colour combination.
Build the banner
- Cut matching cardstock pieces for the base of each flag.
- Add a smaller patterned-paper layer to leave a visible border.
- Decorate each piece with letters, punched shapes or drawings.
- Punch holes near the top corners and thread the flags onto ribbon or twine.
Lay the flags out in order before threading them, leaving a little space between each piece. Use lightweight decorations so the banner hangs evenly.
Make it a shared project
Let each person decorate a flag in their own style while keeping one common colour across the banner. Adults should help younger children with cutting and hole punching. The finished piece can be adapted for a baby shower, classroom display or personalised gift.
