A shared craft project is a lovely way to spend time together. Choose age-appropriate materials, prepare the workspace and let your child’s choices shape the finished piece.
Paper mâché
Layer small strips of paper with a suitable child-safe paste over a simple form. Allow the layers to dry fully before painting. Adults should manage balloon handling and keep broken balloon pieces away from children.
Paper beads
Roll suitable paper strips around a safe, blunt tool and secure the ends with appropriate glue. Once dry, thread them into a decoration or bracelet using age-appropriate materials. Avoid sharp skewers and keep small beads away from young children.
Simple origami
Use lightweight paper that folds easily. Begin with a boat, animal face or another simple model, following a few clear steps. Heavy cardstock can make smaller folds difficult for beginners.
A memory page
Choose a photograph from an outing and add a caption, drawing and a few paper shapes. Let your child decide what they want to remember about the day.
