Cricut cutting machines help you make personalised cards, labels, fabric designs and other projects. Choosing a machine starts with the materials and project sizes you want to work with.
What a Cricut machine does
A Cricut follows a digital design to cut compatible materials with the appropriate blade. Supported pens and tools can add other effects on selected machines. It is a cutting machine, not a printer or a 3D printer.
Compare the machine families
The Explore family is useful for many paper, adhesive-vinyl and iron-on projects. Maker machines offer a broader range of compatible tools and materials. Compact Joy models suit smaller projects, but features and cutting widths differ between models.
The original Cricut Joy cuts and draws but does not support Print Then Cut. Check the exact model rather than assuming all Joy machines have the same capabilities.
Match the material to the project
- Cardstock for cards, gift tags and paper decorations.
- Adhesive vinyl for suitable hard surfaces, used with compatible transfer tape.
- Iron-on for suitable fabrics, applied with the recommended heat settings.
Learn the basics in Design Space
Start with a simple shape or name, choose a compatible material and make a small test cut. Check the official material and tool guidance for your machine before trying something new.
Creative Crafts can help you compare the machines and find supplies for your first project. See our events page for currently bookable workshops.
