Resin can create glossy coasters, decorative castings and other craft pieces. A successful first project starts with the right resin, compatible materials and careful preparation.
Choose a manageable project
A small decorative silicone mould is a useful starting point. Decide whether the project needs a casting resin, coating resin or UV-curing product, then follow that product’s directions. These materials are not interchangeable.
What to prepare
- Resin and hardener, where required
- Accurate measuring and mixing tools
- A compatible mould and resin colourants
- Protective gloves and the protection specified on the product label
- A level, protected work surface with suitable ventilation
Mix and cure as directed
Use the exact ratio, mixing method, working time and maximum pour depth stated by the manufacturer. Add only compatible colourants in the recommended amounts. Cure the piece for the full stated time before handling or removing it from the mould.
Read the safety information
Low odour does not mean a resin is chemical-free or suitable for children. ArtResin recommends gloves and a well-ventilated workspace. Read the product label and safety data sheet, and do not assume a decorative casting is suitable for food contact.
